2021 Oscars

Many films are at an advantage this year due to so few films being released in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Oscars were delayed from February till April due to the virus.

8 PM
Two locations: indoors at the The Dolby Theater and indoor/outdoors at the Union Station
No Host

Let's get started...

Yikes.  I do not like Regina King's silver bug-wing looking high collared Louis Vuitton dress.  Nope.

Don't love Amanda Seyfried's low V-neck red Armani dress.  Too revealing and bland.  It needed a belt or a necklace.

Leslie Odom Jr.  looks quite dapper in a head to toe gold Brioni suit.  It's extreme but he pulls it off.

Very simple silver patterned, spaghetti strapped Chanel dress for Margot Robbie this year.

Seems like exposing mid-drift is the style this year.

I do not like Laura Dern's long sleeved turtle necked Oscar de la Renta dress with a pure white feathered skirt.  Wow.  It's just a hot mess.  Having Bjork swan dress flash backs. Worst dressed list.

The Oscars start at the Union Station with rolling credits as if this is the beginning of a movie.  Unique. Everyone in the audience must be vaccinated because no one is wearing a mask, well, except for Gary Oldman and a few others. To see faces again is a breath of fresh air.  Very limited audience members.
Oh Hollywood...Not necessary to mention political opinions on recent news...let's just stick to movies.

Sequin Oscar lamps on the tables....oh my, gotta get me one of those.

Best original screenplay goes to Emerald Fennell for "Promising Young Woman".  Not a huge fan of her pink and green floral print Gucci dress. She is pregnant.

Best adapted screenplay goes to "The Father".  Gotta love Anthony Hopkins.

Best international film goes to "Another Round" from Denmark.

Daniel Kaluuya wins best supporting actor in "Judas and the Black Messiah".  He looks great, as always.
Congrats to the Lucas brothers who started out as stand-up comedians!

Best Make-up and hair styling goes to "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".  Mia Neal's navy high collared, pearl embossed dress is beautiful.  the pearls drip down her right side.  It's gorgeous.  My Best dressed list! made by an up and coming designer CD Greene.
Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson are the first black women to win best make-up and hair.

Best costume design goes to Ann Roth for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".  She is not present.  Bless her heart.  She's been doing costume designs since 1964.  As of this date she is 89 years old.

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award goes to the Motion Picture television fund. A much needed charity that offers assistance and care to those whose past were in the motion picture and television industry.  This fund helps those with little or no finance support in their elderly years.  It is a beautiful charity and long deserving of recognition. First time the Hersholt award went to a charity.

wow the awards are all out of sync tonight. Major awards presented very early on.  and Best songs sung prior to the show.  Bong Joon Ho presents in Korean with his translator for Best Director.  The award  goes to Chloe Zhao for "Nomadland".  She is wearing a simple beige knit Hermes dress.

Best Sound goes to "The Sound of Metal".

Best live action short film goes to "Two Distant Strangers".

Do not like Glenn Close's blue Armani dress with black slacks?? and satin gloves?? Glenn, you're not Diane Keaton. Worst dressed list.

Best animated short film goes to "If Anything Happens, I love you"

I do not like Reese Witherspoon's red Dior dress.  It is boring and the belt looks so manly and mismatched. Wow boring, boring, boring. She knows better. yuck. Worst dressed list.

Best animated feature film goes to "Soul"

Best Documentary short subject goes to "Colette".

Carey Mulligan in a very shiny gold Valentino dress that reveals her mid-drift.  Not loving it.  Wish it was a bit more classy.

Best Documentary feature goes to "My Octopus Teacher" so sad.

Love Marlee Matlin's v-neck off the shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress.  Love the sheer flowing sleeves.  One of my best dressed.

"Tenet" deserves and wins for best visual effects.

Brad Pitt presents for Best Supporting actress.  Handsome as usual.  Looks like he grew his hair out while quarantining.  He has it pulled back in a ponytail.

Yuh-Jung Youn wins Best Supporting actress for "Minari". Lovely black ballgown with pockets.  Very elegant and age appropriate. Funny speech. very witty.

Love Maria Bakalova's white Louis Vuitton v-neck and tulle skirt.  Love the hair, jewerly, make-up. Perfection.  One of my best dressed.

Best Production Design goes to "Mank".

I do not like Halle Berry's new bob hair-do at all.  Not a fan of her Dolce & Gabbana purple dress either.  Just looks like wrinkled bed sheets.

Best Cinematography goes to "Mank".

Harrison Ford looks handsome.  He seems short of breath, perhaps nervous.  Best film editing goes to "Sound of Metal".

Wowza Viola Davis in a white Alexander McQueen cut out dress.  Very revealing for her.  Took a risk and it paid off.  one of my Best Dressed.

Tyler Perry also receives a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award.  They rarely air this award on live tv so it is nice for once to put the glitz and glamour aside for the much more important work being done in the world. He truly is a wonderful human who does fabulous work for humanity.  Beautiful speech.  Stop Hate.  All Hate, regardless of race/creed/religion, etc.  Hate is ignorant.

No, no Zendaya.  I do not like this yellow colored Valentino dress.  Taking the mid-drift way to far.  I don't like her jewelry choice, too heavy.  I don't like her hair style. no. Sorry, worst dressed list.

Best Score goes to "Soul".

Best Song goes to H.E.R for "Judas and the Black Messiah" .  I kinda love this blue hooded pajamas she is wearing.  looks super cozy and very original!! Designed by Dundas.  Best dressed look!!

Andra Day.  Another mid-drift gold dress.  This one by Vera Wang.

I have never seen larger off the shoulder sleeves than Angela Basset's red Alberta Ferretti dress right now.  Holy Moly! No way you could store that dress in a bag.

In Memoriam song was a terrible choice and it sped through the names.  No one can read that fast. My god this speed is so DISRESPECTFUL. Why is this song so upbeat??  I mean slow it down in a year where we lost so many lives. Terrible.  Worst ever! why not a live performer?

Love Rita Moreno in a maroon mermaid style dress she has paired with a matching coat.  Odd they are announcing best picture now and not the last award.  I do not like this order. Why??

Best picture goes to "Nomadland".  Frances McDormand howls like a wolf on stage...so there's that.

Vanessa Kirby's pink Gucci dress is so ill fitted.  The dress is puckering in all the wrong places.  very bad tailoring.

Renee Zellweger is wearing a peach strapless Armani Prive dress and awards the Best Actress in a Leading Role to Frances McDormand for "Nomadland".  McDormand as usual is wearing no make-up which I love and a black Valentino frock with feathers on the wrists.

Emotionless Joaquin Phoenix awards Best actor award to Anthony Hopkins for "The Father". Hopkins is in England and is not present to except the award.

all in all kind of a dull show.  It just didn't feel like the Oscars. but then again no one went to the movies cause all the theaters were shut down for the pandemic. So nothing felt like reality this year.
better hopes for next year.

BEST DRESSED: Mia Neal
WORST DRESSED: Reese Witherspoon
