2021 Oscars

Many films are at an advantage this year due to so few films being released in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Oscars were delayed from February till April due to the virus.

Sunday, April 25, 2021
8 PM
Two locations: indoors at the The Dolby Theater and indoor/outdoors at the Union Station
No Host

Let's get started...

Yikes.  I do not like Regina King's silver bug-wing looking high collared Louis Vuitton dress.  Nope.

Don't love Amanda Seyfried's low V-neck red Armani dress.  Too revealing and bland.  It needed a belt or a necklace.

Leslie Odom Jr.  looks quite dapper in a head to toe gold Brioni suit.  It's extreme but he pulls it off.

Very simple silver patterned, spaghetti strapped Chanel dress for Margot Robbie this year.

Seems like exposing mid-drift is the style this year.

I do not like Laura Dern's long sleeved turtle necked Oscar de la Renta dress with a pure white feathered skirt.  Wow.  It's just a hot mess.  Having Bjork swan dress flash backs. Worst dressed list.

The Oscars start at the Union Station with rolling credits as if this is the beginning of a movie.  Unique. Everyone in the audience must be vaccinated because no one is wearing a mask, well, except for Gary Oldman and a few others. To see faces again is a breath of fresh air.  Very limited audience members.
Oh Hollywood...Not necessary to mention political opinions on recent news...let's just stick to movies.

Sequin Oscar lamps on the tables....oh my, gotta get me one of those.

Best original screenplay goes to Emerald Fennell for "Promising Young Woman".  Not a huge fan of her pink and green floral print Gucci dress. She is pregnant.

Best adapted screenplay goes to "The Father".  Gotta love Anthony Hopkins.

Best international film goes to "Another Round" from Denmark.

Daniel Kaluuya wins best supporting actor in "Judas and the Black Messiah".  He looks great, as always.
Congrats to the Lucas brothers who started out as stand-up comedians!

Best Make-up and hair styling goes to "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".  Mia Neal's navy high collared, pearl embossed dress is beautiful.  the pearls drip down her right side.  It's gorgeous.  My Best dressed list! made by an up and coming designer CD Greene.
Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson are the first black women to win best make-up and hair.

Best costume design goes to Ann Roth for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".  She is not present.  Bless her heart.  She's been doing costume designs since 1964.  As of this date she is 89 years old.

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award goes to the Motion Picture television fund. A much needed charity that offers assistance and care to those whose past were in the motion picture and television industry.  This fund helps those with little or no finance support in their elderly years.  It is a beautiful charity and long deserving of recognition. First time the Hersholt award went to a charity.

wow the awards are all out of sync tonight. Major awards presented very early on.  and Best songs sung prior to the show.  Bong Joon Ho presents in Korean with his translator for Best Director.  The award  goes to Chloe Zhao for "Nomadland".  She is wearing a simple beige knit Hermes dress.

Best Sound goes to "The Sound of Metal".

Best live action short film goes to "Two Distant Strangers".

Do not like Glenn Close's blue Armani dress with black slacks?? and satin gloves?? Glenn, you're not Diane Keaton. Worst dressed list.

Best animated short film goes to "If Anything Happens, I love you"

I do not like Reese Witherspoon's red Dior dress.  It is boring and the belt looks so manly and mismatched. Wow boring, boring, boring. She knows better. yuck. Worst dressed list.

Best animated feature film goes to "Soul"

Best Documentary short subject goes to "Colette".

Carey Mulligan in a very shiny gold Valentino dress that reveals her mid-drift.  Not loving it.  Wish it was a bit more classy.

Best Documentary feature goes to "My Octopus Teacher" so sad.

Love Marlee Matlin's v-neck off the shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress.  Love the sheer flowing sleeves.  One of my best dressed.

"Tenet" deserves and wins for best visual effects.

Brad Pitt presents for Best Supporting actress.  Handsome as usual.  Looks like he grew his hair out while quarantining.  He has it pulled back in a ponytail.

Yuh-Jung Youn wins Best Supporting actress for "Minari". Lovely black ballgown with pockets.  Very elegant and age appropriate. Funny speech. very witty.

Love Maria Bakalova's white Louis Vuitton v-neck and tulle skirt.  Love the hair, jewerly, make-up. Perfection.  One of my best dressed.

Best Production Design goes to "Mank".

I do not like Halle Berry's new bob hair-do at all.  Not a fan of her Dolce & Gabbana purple dress either.  Just looks like wrinkled bed sheets.

Best Cinematography goes to "Mank".

Harrison Ford looks handsome.  He seems short of breath, perhaps nervous.  Best film editing goes to "Sound of Metal".

Wowza Viola Davis in a white Alexander McQueen cut out dress.  Very revealing for her.  Took a risk and it paid off.  one of my Best Dressed.

Tyler Perry also receives a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian award.  They rarely air this award on live tv so it is nice for once to put the glitz and glamour aside for the much more important work being done in the world. He truly is a wonderful human who does fabulous work for humanity.  Beautiful speech.  Stop Hate.  All Hate, regardless of race/creed/religion, etc.  Hate is ignorant.

No, no Zendaya.  I do not like this yellow colored Valentino dress.  Taking the mid-drift way to far.  I don't like her jewelry choice, too heavy.  I don't like her hair style. no. Sorry, worst dressed list.

Best Score goes to "Soul".

Best Song goes to H.E.R for "Judas and the Black Messiah" .  I kinda love this blue hooded pajamas she is wearing.  looks super cozy and very original!! Designed by Dundas.  Best dressed look!!

Andra Day.  Another mid-drift gold dress.  This one by Vera Wang.

I have never seen larger off the shoulder sleeves than Angela Basset's red Alberta Ferretti dress right now.  Holy Moly! No way you could store that dress in a bag.

In Memoriam song was a terrible choice and it sped through the names.  No one can read that fast. My god this speed is so DISRESPECTFUL. Why is this song so upbeat??  I mean slow it down in a year where we lost so many lives. Terrible.  Worst ever! why not a live performer?

Love Rita Moreno in a maroon mermaid style dress she has paired with a matching coat.  Odd they are announcing best picture now and not the last award.  I do not like this order. Why??

Best picture goes to "Nomadland".  Frances McDormand howls like a wolf on stage...so there's that.

Vanessa Kirby's pink Gucci dress is so ill fitted.  The dress is puckering in all the wrong places.  very bad tailoring.

Renee Zellweger is wearing a peach strapless Armani Prive dress and awards the Best Actress in a Leading Role to Frances McDormand for "Nomadland".  McDormand as usual is wearing no make-up which I love and a black Valentino frock with feathers on the wrists.

Emotionless Joaquin Phoenix awards Best actor award to Anthony Hopkins for "The Father". Hopkins is in England and is not present to except the award.

all in all kind of a dull show.  It just didn't feel like the Oscars. but then again no one went to the movies cause all the theaters were shut down for the pandemic. So nothing felt like reality this year.
better hopes for next year.

BEST DRESSED: Mia Neal
WORST DRESSED: Reese Witherspoon

2021 Golden Globes

Wow.  what a horrible year.  so depressing.

But alas, the Hollywood foreign press has decided to press forward with this night's ceremony.  I have mixed emotions.  Part of me thinks that due to the pandemic and lack of movies released in 2020 they should have held off and just added the few films that were released in 2020 to next years roster.  I feel like because of the lack of films released that maybe some films were nominated that should not have been.  I think they got nominated not by talent but by lack of any other choices.  Perhaps tonight will not be an even playing field.  But alas...the show must go on....

Sunday, February 28, 2021
8:00 pm

Amy Poehler is hosting from California and Tina Fey is hosting from New York making this the first bi-coastal broadcast of the Golden Globes.

All the presenters and nominees are spoken to through computers chats.

Pre-show

Jane Lynch looks great in a pinstriped suit.  Don't love the brooch.

Carey Mulliagn looks lovely in an iridescent pale pink, off the shoulder dress.  In a hotel room.

Hate Elle Fanning's pink and yellow dress.  With the fake yellow flowers on the shoulders.  More something for an Easter Parade.  wine in background

Hate Kate Hudson's metallic dress with the big 80's black velvet sleeves. many throw pillows in background.

I dislike Julia Garner's pulled back hair with a boring white collared shirt and blue velvet tuxedo jacket.  Very Victor/Victoria.

Yikes. Jared Leto and that long, stringy hair.  He always looks homeless, and yet he is so handsome!! bookcase in background.

I don't love Regina King's dress.  It's a one sleeved, black dress with a big silver, sweetheart cut top.  It looks like a cartoon.  haha. empty hall with her dog bed in background. oh my god, mid interview the dog comes in and lays down.  So cute. Stealing her thunder.

I do not like Amanda Seyfried's red flamenco floral dress.  Never a friend of her style. police sirens in the background.

LIVE from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California and the Rainbow Room for New York:

Tina Fey looks great in an all black suit dress with cute stockings.  I hate Amy Poehler's big buttoned black sequin dress she looks like a dominatrix.

WOW. the ballroom is usually filled with celebrities but tonight the room is sparsely filled with essential workers and first responders.  HELLO, Why wasn't I called about this???

Laura Dern looks nice in her satin black suit.

There is a lot of sound problems.  Understandably so.

Daniel Kaluuya wins best supporting actor in a motion picture for "Judas and the Black Messiah". He looks great in a blue suit and white trimmed suit.

Love Bill Murphy's Hawaiian shirt.

Love Angelia Basset's purple one shoulder boa dress. Vava Voom.  John Boyega wins Best actor in a television supporting role for "Small Axe" . looks very handsome in a white suit.

I love the black and white rose suit Catherine O'Hara has on.  She wins for Best Actress in a comedy series for "Schitt's Creek". well deserved.

Tiffany Haddis golden hair looks great. ok brown sequin linked dress.  "Soul" wins for Best Animated Picture.

Mark Ruffalo wins Best Actor in a mini-series or TV movie for "I Know This Much is True".  Amazing book by Wally Lamb.

Aaron Sorkin wins for best screenplay for "The Trial of the Chicago Seven"

Gag sequence by SNL cast members. Hate Maya Rudolph's silver bag of a dress.  Her style is the worst.  Wish Keanan had on gray pants not brown.

The two hosts could not be less alike in outfits right now. Tina Fey just added a frumpy rose floral print to her dress.  Is Amy not a friend enough to tell her that's terrible looking.  She just let's Tina end up on the worst looked list.  Amy is too old for that mini dress and black stockings.  The hair is forced.  Tiny went way past her age to 85.  and Amy went too before her age at 17.  Can we not get a happy medium?

Norman Lear at 98 wins the (third) Carol Burnett award for life time achievement in television.  Well deserved for his producing "All in the Family" and other progressive shows.

I like Salma Hayak's red dress.  Lose the brooch.

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick look fabulous as a couple.  Sedgwick is wearing off-white satin blouse with pants.  Satin wrinkles so easily.

Emma Corin wins for Best actress in a drama series for "The Crown".  New British actress.  Giggles through expectance speech, so nervous.  Wearing a ridiculous RBG collared judge robe dress. horrible.

Best Original Score goes to "Soul".

Jason Sadakius wins Best actor comedy series for "Ted Lasso". He is wearing a tie-dyed sweat shirt which to me is a bit disrespectful for the HFP.

Best TV comedy series goes to "Schitt's Creek".  Daniel Levy looks gorgeous in a yellow sequined suit.

Sean Penn talks about a foundation that helps prevent COVID-19.  His hair is dyed brown and his a mop on his head.

Rosamund Pike wins best actress in a comedy film for "I Care A Lot".  She's wearing a giant suspenders looking red tulle dress.  Her speech is a bit obnoxious towards America.

New-comer Josh O'Connor wins best actor for drama series "The Crown".  Apparently, you can still be played off stage virtually.

Gal Gabot looks lovely in a simple white turtle neck mini dress with sheer sleeves.  Best Foreign Picture goes to the U.S.A. for "Minari".

Best TV drama goes to "The Crown".

Such different styles, Tina and Amy. Tina alway so modest and dressing beyond her years and Amy always trying too hard to dress younger.  Between the two, they equal out.  Tina is now wearing a gold sequin blazer with old RW&B cuffs.  Amy changed into a black dress with a weird gold hoop at her chest line that is nothing but distracting.

This year Jane Fonda is the recipient of the "Cecil B. DeMille Award".  Seems long over due.  Many a younger actors have won before her. She looks great in a slick white suit with gray hair.

Jamie Lee Curtis looks amazing in a yellow flowing dress.

Jodie Foster looks awesome in a flowing black and white pant suit.  She has her girl and her dog by her side.  She wins for best supporting actress in a motion picture for "The Mauritanian".

Gillian Anderson wins best supporting actress is a supporting role for "The Crown".
The Crown is cleaning up tonight.

Anya Taylor-Joy looks simple and blonde in a green spaghetti strapped dress.  She wins best actress in a mini-series for "The Queen's Gambit".

"The Queen's Gambit" wins Best mini-series.

Renee Zellweger wearing a very simple black velvet dress. Chadwick Boseman posthumously wins Best actor in a motion picture drama for "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom".  His widow excepts his award. sad.

Bryce Dallas Howard is wearing a horrible, unflattering, silver and pink full sleeved sequin dress. She is not a heavy girl but it is just ill-fitted.

Chloe Zhao wins best director for "Nomadland"

"Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm" wins best comedy film.

I hate Awkwafina's retro 70s dress, yikes.  Best actor in a comedy film goes to Sasha Baron Cohen for "Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm".  He looks handsome. His wife, Isla Fisher looks lovely in a hot pink dress.

Thanks for dressing up Joaquin Phoenix! .  Andra Day wins for best actress in a drama for "The United States VS. Billie Holiday"

Michael Douglas looks handsome and alive.  Catherine Zeta-Jones looks beautiful in an off the shoulder black dress.

"Nomadland" wins best Drama movie

It's a half-ass review for a half-ass ceremony for a horrible year which basically released no movies.
