2017 Oscar Rant

89th Academy Awards Ceremony
Sunday, February 26, 2017, 8:30 PM
Host: Jimmy Kimmel

After the Super Bowl and the World Series, the Oscars is the most watched television event of the year.

8:30 pm: Show starts with the handsome Justin Timberlake walking in and singing.  Everyone is dancing in their seats.  Beautiful set.  Joyous moment.  He is quite the performer. Meryl gets a standing ovation for being the most "Overrated Actress" ever (Trump joke).  Meryl Streep is wearing the prettiest Oscar outfit I have ever seen her in.  It's a beautiful navy Elie Saab jumpsuit with a big train.  I love it! One of my best dressed.

8:35 pm: Host Jimmy Kimmel comes on stage.  Very Funny, with polite jokes.

Alicia Vikander looks very nice in her black lace Louis Vuitton dress. She awards Mahershala Ali with the best supporting actor award for "Moonlight".  Standing ovation.

Kate Mckinnon looks very sexy in her black v-neck dress. She's a goof ball.

Taraji P. Henson looks killer in this tight velvet Alberta Ferretti gown.  That chocker she has on pulls the whole look together.  One of my best dressed.

Janelle Monae looks stunning in a silver, black and gold Elie Saab ballgown. Those are the colors of the Oscars.  Hair and make-up is beautiful. One of my best dressed.

One of the real life figures from the movie "Hidden Figures" comes on stage in a wheel chair. Bless her heart. Her name is Katherine Johnson and she is now 98 years old.  Best Documentary goes to "O. J. Simpson: Made in America".

Octavia Spencer is wearing a beautiful silver satin and feathered Marchesa gown. She always dresses so appropriately and elegantly.

9:11 pm: Mark Rylance, wearing a hat awards Viola Davis for best supporting actress for "Fences". She looks great in her red Armani Prive dress.  Her arms are super ripped.  Long, touching speech.

Tiny parachutes containing candy fall from the sky.

Love Emma Robert's Vintage Armani black and gold scalloped dress. So amazing. So simple, yet stunning. I absolutely love it! One of my best dressed.

Michelle Williams is wearing a similar looking dress to Emma Roberts. Only hers is by Louis Vuitton and is a velvet halter top.  Love her look also. One of my best dressed.  She always looks best in her pixie hair cut.

Naomie Harris' Calvin Klein dress is inappropriate for the event. The peek-a-boo belly, uggg so ugly.
Ugly shoes. One of my worst dressed.

Nicole Kidman's nude Armani Prive dress is washing her out.  She always looks better in a color.

9:26 pm: Charlize Theron's gold Dior dress is boring and her huge clear white diamond earrings don't match.  Her pony tail bothers me, like she's going to play tennis. Shirley MacLaine looks great in a black suit. Over 80 different countries summited films to be up for Best foreign film.  The winner is "The Salesman" from Iran.  The winner Asghar Farhadi could not attend due to the travel ban on his country of Iran. A friend reads a moving speech for him.

I usually love Priyanka Chopra's style choices but this squared, strapless white dress could pass as a mattress.

9:41 pm: Hailee Steinfeld looks like a bombshell in this light sheer dress by Ralph and Russo. And that smokey eye. Amazing. Best animated film goes to "Zootopia"

Dakota Johnson is wearing one of the ugliest dresses (Gucci) I have ever seen on the Oscar red carpet ever.  It is an ugly yellow color and ugly shape.  It looks like curtains or as if she stole it from Bette Davis' closet. That fabric in front looks like a napkin in her lap. Her hair and make-up are also bad. One of my worst dressed.

A sightseeing tour bus pulls up in front and the passengers enter the theater not realizing the award show is going on.  The fans are in shock.

10:34pm: Seth Rogen and Michael J. Fox come out of a DeLorean. Standing ovation.

Dev Patel looks great in Burberry.

Leslie Mann looks like a Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" that has pulled an all nighter.

10:58 pm: Meryl Streep and Javier Bardem present best cinematography to "La La Land"

11:18 pm:  Scarlett Johanson is wearing a bad Azzedina Alaia dress. She presents "La La Land" with best song and score.

Jennifer Aniston in her usual black. Slide split up the leg and a v-neck cleavage. In Memoriam. Actor Bill Paxton died the day before. So sad.

The Rolex commercial is mesmerizing. A nod to movies.

11:30 pm: Going into overtime. Funny bit with the on-going joke between Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon present Best Original Screenplay to "Manchester By the Sea".

Jessica Biel's tight gold dress might have been alright but after she added that ugly Tiffany necklace that makes her neck look like a lion mane all hope went out the door.

11:33 pm: I don't really like Amy Adams' silver Tom Ford dress. She presents best adapted screenplay to "Moonlight".  Kimmel jokes "just cause they're adapted doesn't mean we love them any less".

Kirsten Dunst looks amazing in a simple black Dior gown with pockets.

11:42 pm: Halle Berry's hair is a huge afro.  Her black and nude Versace dress is just ok.  She presents Best Director to Damien Chazelle for "La La Land". At 32 years old he is the youngest to ever win best director.

11:48 pm: Great clips throughout the night for best acting categories.  Brie Larson's velvet Oscar de la Renta dress is very flowy.  Looks hard to walk in.  She presents Best actor to Casey Affleck for "Manchester By the Sea".

I love Chrissy Teigen's Zuhair Murad white and gold dress.

11:53 pm: Breathtaking Leonardo DiCaprio presents Emma Stone with best actress for "La La Land".
Emma Stone's gold, fringe Givenchy dress is a bit underwhelming especially for someone who was nominated tonight. Natalie Portman who was nominated for "Jackie" but could not attend due to her pregnancy.

Ruth Negga looks very prim and proper in her red lace turtleneck Valentino dress.

12:03 am: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway present best picture.  Standing ovation. Beatty is hesitating for a long time.  reads...rereads....Dunaway whispers "you're impossible" and takes the envelope and says "La La Land". Damn it. He should have said "Hold on, there's a mix-up. " But everyone from "La La Land" comes on stage and starts making speeches. Commotion is going on back stage and a man with a headset comes on stage. The envelope was a duplicate and when Beatty opened it it said "Emma Stone. La La Land". He panicked and passed it to Dunaway.  The correct envelope is presented and is shown on stage. It says best picture "Moonlight".  Jimmy Kimmel comes on stage and jokingly yells at Beatty "Warren, what did you do?" Beatty explains the mix up to the audience.  The producer of "La La Land" graciously hands the award over to the director of "Moonlight".  Most AWKWARD ending ever!!

BEST DRESSED: Emma Roberts
WORST DRESSED: Dakota Johnson
