2013 Oscars Rant

Aired March 2, 2014. Hosted by Ellen.

6:14 pm (EST): First person to arrive is Viola Davis. Very nice, silky green dress.  Liza Minnelli is in the background wearing a silk, flowing royal blue two piece with a strip of blue in her hair.  This is the best she's looked in years!

6:17 pm:  Ellen's wife Portia de Rossi  in a lacy ivory dress. I don't like this number.  It looks crocheted.

6:44 pm: Amy Adams looks radiant in a navy blue dress.  She has a great style. Jason Sudeikis looks sharp.

7:00 pm: Lupita Nyong'o light blue dress is lovely.  It's a little too low cut for her small bust line. She should chuck the headband.

7:03 pm: Naomi Watts white dress is underwhelming and she made the same damn mistake she made at the Golden Globes...she's wearing a choker necklace with a high collar dress. Big mistake.  She should have worn a silver shoes...not black.  Calista Flockhart is wearing a similar dress. Although, she has nice earrings on.

7:05 pm: June Squibb looks great in an emerald long-sleeved dress.  Ugg... Jared Leto in a white tux.  He should have wore his shaggy hair up.  Lady Gaga's dress is horrible and over structured.  Her wig is bad.

7:17 pm: Jessica Biel's pastel shiny dress is horrible.  She always dresses terribly.  She needs a new stylist.

7:21 pm: Sally Hawkins nude, beaded dress is matronly.  Angelia Jolie's silver dress ages her also.  Would have looked better on Jane Fonda. Laura Dern's pale pink dress is nice and I love her red hair.

7:22 pm: Cate Blanchett's nude, beaded dress is ugly.  She could dress so much better.  She looks like a christmas tree with all this junk hanging off the dress.  And the earrings are too much.
This is the third nude dress in a row. Snooze-fest.

7:37 pm: I don't like the straps on Charlize Theron's black long-trained dress.  Pharrell Williams is wearing a tux with shorts.  I don't get the fashion statement he is trying to make.

7:39 pm: Kerry Washington's purple draped dress is gorgeous.  I love her dark lip. Flawless.  Glenn Close's black dress is too heavy looking.

8:00 pm: Julia Roberts has a lace piece around her waist on her black dress.  It makes her look pregnant. Rip that off and she'd look great.

8:13 pm: Jada Pinkett-Smith's pink strapped dress looks good on her.  Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski are in whites and look like the ice princesses they are.  They are best friends now after commentating at the winter olympics.

8:16 pm: Like Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock is wearing a beautiful navy blue gown. Don't know who her date is.

8:20 pm: Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning in her red dress, also like Amy Adams her dress has paneling on the hips. Elegant.

Show starts:

8:31 pm: Ellen's tuxedo looks like a 1770 colonial apprentice suit.  The set is nice.  Her opening number is pretty funny. I thought Seth MacFarlane's was better.

8:40 pm: At least Anne Hathaway's dress is prettier than the mess she wore last year.  It's a black dress with jewels on the chest. I'm over her short hair, she looks like a P.T.A member.  She is presenting for best supporting actor.  Jared Leto wins best supporting  for "Dallas Buyers Club," which was predicted.

8:47 pm: I love Jim Carey's suit.

9:12 pm: WOW! Kim Novak's plastic surgery looks horrible!!!  Her face is busted.  And her raspy voice. What a mess. Just let your body age gracefully.

9:17 pm: Sally Field's black lace dress is beautiful.  That's how you age.

9:20 pm: Emma Watson's silver and black two piece dress is very hip.

9:30 pm: Kate Hudson's silver dress is radiant.  The cut is great.  She has a great stylist.

9:55 pm: U2 performs.  Bono and those stupid blue glasses.

10:09 pm: "Gravity" is cleaning up in the technical departments.

10:18 pm: Lupita Nyong'o wins for best supporting actress for "12 Years a Slave."  She just graduated from Yale School of Drama.  This was her first film. WOW!

10:22 pm: Ellen orders pizza for the actors.  She asks Harvey Weinstein to tip the delivery guy.

10:28 pm: Bill Murray does a quick shout out to the recently deceased Harold Ramis.

10:29 pm: Anna Kendricks' dress is bad.  If only it didn't have that sheer waist with those red stars. Yuck!

10:35 pm: Pink sings "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."

10:42: Hahaha Ellen runs in late dressed as Glinda the Good Witch. Cute.

10:46: Finally "The Great Gatsby" wins something! (production design)

10:50 pm: In Memoriam segment was touching but then Bette Midler comes out and sings "Wind Beneath My Wings" and I sobbed.  RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

11:08 pm: Once again John Travolta is fooling no one with those hair plugs.

11:24 pm: I do not like Penelope Cruz's pink gown. It looks like a fancy robe.

The show is running about 30 mins behind.

11:26 pm: No Shock "12 Years a Slave" wins best adapted screenplay.  Surprisingly, Spike Jonze beats  David O. Russell's "American Hustle"  for his original script for "Her."

11:33 pm: Angelina Jolie walks out slowly with a very frail looking 87 year old Sidney Poitier.   Alfonso Cuaron wins best director for "Gravity".

11:45 pm: Best actress goes to Cate Blanchett for her amazing work in "Blue Jasmine".

11:52: Matthew McConaughey wins for "Dallas Buyers Club." He lost so much weight for this role, he morphed into the character.  He had a very nicely prepared speech.

12:00 am: "12 years a Slave" wins best picture.  Director Steven McQueen jumps up and down on stage. I think "Captain Philips" should have won.

Best Dressed: Kate Hudson
Worst Dressed: Anna Kendrick
