Oscar Rant 2016

Oscars held on Sunday February 28, 2016, 8:30 pm
Host: Chris Rock

8:30 pm: the show starts with Chris Rock's monologue which was kinda funny.  I thought he played the race card too much but I understand he probably had a lot of pressure to address the controversy of no black nominees this year.

Jennifer Lawrence did not look like herself in her Dior gown, perhaps its cause her hair is ultra blond and straight.  Dress was nude and lace on top which I didn't love.

8:45 pm: Emily Blunt in an ugly pink Prada maternity gown and Charlize Theron in a forgettable Dior low plunging red dress. They announced "best original screenplay".  "Spotlight" wins, which is rightly so.  Touching movie about the cover up of the child rapes in the Catholic church.

Amy Poehler's kimono looking dress is a miss for the event.

8:50 pm: Ryan Gosling and Russell Crow looked great in their tuxes. Like Gosling's white bow tie.  "The Big Short" wins oscar for "best adapted screenplay".

Heidi Klume looks ridiculous in her lilac Versace dress.  Wrapped up like an easter basket. WORST DRESSED.

9:00 pm: Funny skit involving black people in the all white movies that are nominated.

9:03 pm: Sarah Silverman's tube top dress is too tight and she is very stiff giving her speech.  Sam Smith sings the nominated song "Writings on the Wall" from "Spectre".  Very good job.

Jennifer Jason Leigh's pale pink Marchesa dress is beautiful on her.

9:07 pm: Kerry Washington's black and white leather Versace dress is awesome. Love it. Very different for the Oscars.

9:10 pm: J.K. Simmons awards the "best supporting actress" award to Alicia Vikander for her role in "The Danish Girl".  She seems quite shocked as she walks on stage with her yellow and silver Louis Vuitton dress. Good for her, first time nominee, first win.

Naomi Watts looks wild but great in her purple and blue Armani Prive dress.  She is covered head to toe in sequins.  Liev Schrieber on her arm don't hurt either.

Saoirse Ronan looks amazing in a beautiful green sequined Calvin Klein dress.  Jewerly, hair, make-up, perfection. BEST DRESSED

9:20 pm: Cate Blanchett's blue Armani v-neck floral detailed dress is beautiful.  She looks stunning.  She awards "Best Costume" to "Mad Max: Fury Road".

9:23 pm: Tina Fey is wearing a simple but lovely purple Versace dress, wish she wore her hair down though.  She and Steve Carrell present the oscar for "Production design" to "Mad Max: Fury Road".

9:25 pm: Margot Robbie in a v-neck gold Tom Ford dress and Jared Leto in a cool red and black Gucci tux present the oscar for "make-up and hairstyling" to "Mad Max: Fury Road".  That movie is cleaning up in the art department.

9:30 pm: Not crazy about Jennifer Garner's black Versace dress.  It has a slit and one side of her top is satin and the other is sequined.

9:36 pm: Rachel McAdams' green satin dress is too simple, especially since she was nominated tonight.  She and Michael B. Jordan award "The Revenant" for "best cinematography".

9:40 pm: "Mad Max: Fury Road" wins for "Best film editing", "Best sound editing", and "Best Sound Mixing". Movie is kicking butt.

Not a fan of Rooney Mara's white lace cut out Givenchy dress.

10:00 pm: "Ex Machina" wins for "best visual effects". much deserved.

10:05 pm: Chris Rock has the girl scouts sell cookies to the audience.  I better see some $100 bills.

10:12 pm: "Inside Out" wins "Best animated film".

Olivia Munn looks stiff and way too skinny in her ugly orange Stella McCartney dress.  Remember when she was cool and a nerd?

10:16 pm: The Weeknd (whose hair looks like a poodle's) performs his nominated song "Earned It" from "50 Shades of Gray".  I know the whole movie is about sex but I thought the female dancers' costumes were not appropriate for the Oscars.

10:22 pm: Kate Winslet's was wearing Ralph Lauren but the black fabric on her dress is a tad too shiny.  It looks like duck tape or a garbage bag which makes it look cheap, but I love her black framed glasses.  Reese Witherspoon's Oscar de la Renta blue dress is boring and typical of her.

10:28 pm: Patricia Arquette looks great in her royal blue Marina Rinaldi dress I might even like it more than the dress she wore last year when she won.  Her speech is very monotone like she is nervous or on a sedative.  She awards Mark Rylance "best supporting actor" for his role in "Bridge of Spies".  Big surprise, all bets were in Stallone.  Good for him, first time nominee, first win.

10:38 pm: Louis C.K. blows Chris Rock's jokes out of the water as he jokes about how "Best Documentary Short" is so important to the winner because they aren't rich, the award is going home in a crappy car tonight. Classic.

10:42 pm: "Amy" the story of Amy Winehouse wins "Best Documentary". very happy about that.

10:50 pm: Girl Scouts raised $65, 243

10:56 pm: David Grohl sings "Black Bird" for the In Memoriam piece. Wes Craven is the first mentioned, Leonard Nimoy is the last.  Shame on the academy for leaving out movie veteran Abe Vigoda (Th Godfather) who died this year at age 94.

11:07 pm: Sofia Vergara's dress is a lovely navy sequined Marchesa gown, but I don't like her hair.  "Best Foreign Film" goes to "Son of Saul".

11:10 pm: a surprise visit from Vice President Biden to make a speech about the fight against sexual abuse.  This is followed by the nominated song "Till It Happens to You" sung by Lady Gaga.  A song about the victims of rape.  Gaga is joined by actual rape victims, I cried.

11:20 pm: "Best Original Score" goes to Ennio Morricone for "The Hateful Eight". Well deserved.

11:25 pm: "Best Original Song" goes to Sam Smith for "Spectre".  Good song, but I think Lady Gaga should have won. Although, him being the one of first openly gay men to win is a wonderful thing.

11:30 pm: Sasha Baron Cohen comes out as one of his stupid characters.  I wish he'd be himself because he is a talented actor.  Olivia Wilde's boobs are smashed down like pancakes in her horrible white Valentino dress.

Running over time

11:38 pm: Alejandro G. Inarritu wins "Best Director" for "The Revenant".  Second time in a row.

11:45 pm: Brie Lawson wins "Best Actress" for "Room".  She is wearing a very nice navy flowing Gucci dress, wish she did more with her hair.  First time nominee, first win.

11:50 pm: Julianne Moore is wearing a nice black sequined strapped Chanel dress.  She presents "Best Actor". Finally Leonardo DiCaprio wins an oscar on his 6th try for "The Revenant".  He looks very handsome in his Armani tux. Very humble, nice speech about saving the environment.  He brought his mama of course.

11:55 pm: Morgan Freedman announces "Spotlight" as "Best Picture".  Thank goodness, it was an amazing film with a very important message.  Michael Keaton mouths "F*ck Yea" as he approaches the stage. awesome.

That's a wrap!

Golden Globes 2016

73rd GOLDEN GLOBES 2016
Aired Sunday, January 10, 2016, 8pm
Host: Ricky Gervais

8pm: great, strong opening from the host

8:10pm: Best supporting actress in a movie goes to Kate Winslet in "Steve Jobs". Her typical cut dress in navy.

Yuck, Rooney Mara in a shredded nude colored dress.

8:15pm: Jennifer Lopez presents in her usual 70's cut, caped mustard yellow dress. Best supporting actress in a television series is Maura Tierney for "The Affair". Simple light blue and black dress.

8:27pm: Viola Davis presents in a beautiful silver beaded and black tulle dress.

Jane Fonda's white ruffled dressed is a bit overwhelming.

8:35pm: Gervais keeps poking fun at the fact that the movie "The Martian" is in the comedy category when it should be a drama. This happens every year.  They never have enough slots for dramas so they throw them in with the comedies.  Actually, it's very insulting.  Just extend the drama list, the Oscars did it.

8:48pm: Lady Gaga presents in a stiff black dress that looks exactly like what she wore to the Emmys.  She acts so proper now after her ridiculous past.  Best supporting actor in a t.v. series goes to Christian Slater in "Mr. Robot". He looks very handsome.

Rachel McAdams' floral print dress is a flop.

8:53pm: Ennio Morricone finally wins best score for "The Hateful Eight" at the age of 87.

8:55pm: Jamie Foxx's daughter is Miss. Golden Globe

8:56pm: Eva Longoria is wearing a bad tight white dress with unflattering flowers on her hips.  America Ferrera is surprisingly wearing a similar colored mustard dress as Jennifer Lopez.

8:57pm: Jon Hamm wins for best actor in a drama series for "Mad Men".

Bryce Dallas Howard's blue dress is very frumpy.

9:05pm: Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence present.  Amy is wearing a black and white dress with a huge train, too much fabric.  Jennifer Lawrence is in a risky color...orange with a big diamond necklace.

9:08pm: Amy Adams presents and is wearing a super sexy red dress with sequins on the hips.  Best actor in a "comedy" movie is Matt Damon in the not so funny film "The Martian".  Besides the character's wit, the film was sad.

9:17pm: Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt present. Both so handsome it should be a legal.

9:20pm: J.K. Simmons presents with Patricia Arquette who is in a great black dress with a form fitting white bow at the waist.  The best supporting actor in a motion picture is Sylvester Stallone for "Creed".  Hasn't won since 1977.

Cate Blanchett disaster of a dress.  So much fringe!

9:30pm: Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrel present for Best Screenplay.  The winner is Aaron Sorkin for "Steve Jobs".

9:40pm: Helen Mirren presents for best foreign film in a stunning black dress.  The winner is "Son of Saul" for Hungary.

In pink Katy Perry doesn't even look like herself. Don't like the hair.

9:44pm: Lady Gaga wins for best actress in a tv series/tv movie for "American Horror Story".  She is quite shocked.  She has a range of awards now.

9:54pm: awkward moment between Gervais burning Mel Gipson with jokes.

9:57pm: Olivia Wilde in a glittery maroon dress presents award for best drama series to "Mr. Robot".

10:05pm: Tom Hanks (with a cold) presents the Cecil B. DeMille award to Denzel Washington.  Lovely idea, he brought his family on stage.

10:22pm: Morgan Freeman presents best director to Alejandro Inarritu for "The Revenant".

10:32pm: Michael Keaton presents best actress in a comedy movie to Jennifer Lawrence for "Joy".

10:34pm: Maggie Gyllenhaal presents in her usual frumpy ugly dress. I feel bad for her husband and she needs a stylist.

10:42pm: Jim Carrey presents best comedy movie for "The Martian" which is unfair since it wasn't a comedy and it took away from real comedies nominated this year like "Trainwreck".

10:51pm: Eddy Redmayne presents best actress in a drama to new comer Brie Larson for "Room"  She wears a sexy gold cut out dress.

10:55pm: Julianne Moore in a way too young blue sequin dress presents best actor in a drama to Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Revenant". He looks amazing as always.

11:02pm: (they always have time for commercials but not speeches) Harrison Ford presents award for best drama movie to the cast of "The Revenant".

That's a wrap!
