Comedian Seth Macfarlane was chosen for the host.
The Academy tried to appeal to a younger demographic by only calling the show "The Oscars" and not the 85th Academy Awards. This I find ridiculous. This show is about art if the younger demographic can't respect that then let them watch the "MTV Movie awards" in June.
I thought the opening was good and appealed to both movie buffs and knuckleheads. I wasn't offended by the "Boob" skit and I don't think the audience was because most of them acted along.
I thought the sock puppet spoof of "Flight" was hilarious. I thought the skit with Sally Field was entertaining. I am not a hugh fan of dance skits and show tunes even though the dancers looked like they practiced very hard, I am bored by it.
Octavia Spencer was the first presenter for Best Supporting Actor. Her dress was flawless. Christoph Waltz won for the second time in three years, both from acting in Quentin Tarantino movies. I was very excited for him. I thought he played the character effortlessly.
Melissa McCarthy's dress was horrible. It looked like a tarp. It did not flatter her figure at all and her hair looked like a wild lion's mane. She needs some pointers from Octavia Spencer.
"Paperman" wins best animated short. After winning, one of the film's producers threw paper airplanes with kisses on them into the crowd. Security quickly escorted her out of the theater. After much protest she was allowed to return to her seat.
"Brave" won for Best Animated film. That movie sucked.
Reese Witherspoon's black and navy blue dress was beautiful.
Holy Macaroni! Halle Berry's silver and black stripped dress was breath taking and fit her like a glove. She still got it.
Shirley Bassey's performance of "Goldfinger" for the 50 years of "James Bond" was amazing. She has some beautiful sounding pipes.
Jennifer Garner's purple dress was gorgeous and flowed nicely. Her co-presenter Jessica Chastain's bronze dress was also a great choice. It had lovely bead work.
I didn't care for Catherine Zeta-Jones' "All That Jazz" skit cause we saw it all at the 2003 show when "Chicago" won best picture.
Jennifer Hudson looks amazing after losing so much weight but again we don't need performers re-singing songs we saw preformed at previous Oscars. We heard her song preformed in 2007's award show when she won her oscar for "Dreamgirls". This is pointless. Do something new. Are we out of ideas academy?? Well, then let Adele sing more.
Then the cast of "Les Miserables" came out and sang. I was bored. Who is this show appealing to the fans of "Glee"?
There hasn't been this much singing at the Oscars sing Hugh Jackman hosted. I did not like him as host as you may of guessed. Was this the Oscars or the Tonys?
Sound Editing had a tie. This has not happened in decades. The academy has since changed the rules for voting so I am perplexed as to how this occurred. The Oscars went to "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Skyfall".
There were many men with long flowing hair that won technical awards throughout the night.
I thought the "Sound of Music" skit they did to introduce Christopher Plummer was clever. However, younger audiences probably didn't get it.
Anne Hathaway where or where do I begin? First off: You are over-rated!! Second you look like a train wreck on one of the most important nights of your life!! She admitted she picked the dress three hours before the awards and it showed. It did not fit. The breast cup stitching was horrible. It made it look like her nipples were erect the whole time. The waistline stitching was atrocious. It looked like it needed to be ironed. The make-up was lame. The necklace she chose looked like something you get at the children's jewelry store "Claire's". It was diamond daisies and it ran too long in the back and interfered with the back straps of her ugly dress. She was a hot mess. She probably forgot to put on underwear also, as usual. This dress will go down in history like Gwyneth Paltrow's pepto-bismol pink disaster did.
I also would have preferred Amy Adams or Sally Field to have won Best Supporting Actress instead of Anne.
I liked Sally Field's simple red dress but I wish she wore a high collar cause her neck aged her horribly compared to her face.
Sandra Bullock's lace and beaded dress was nice but loose the hair clip.
The top of Jennifer Lawrence's dress was better than the bottom. It needed to be toned down a bit. It looked like a comforter wrapped around her. The train was lovely though. Her hair and make-up was great. I loved the simple necklace falling down her back. She looked petrified as a presenter.
Adele wore a dress that looked like a starry night sky with awesome silver glitter heels. She sounded and looked memorizing.
Nicole Kidman looked young again in this sexy gold and black sequin dress. Lately she'd been looking too matronly.
Kristen Stewart looked like crap. She had messy hair, no make-up, ill-fitting dress and a black and blue on her bare arm that she should have put cover-up on. And as usual she had the "this is boring" look on her smug face.
I did not love Barbra Streisand's dress, make-up, and especially hair. She needed a more mature look. She just looked like a silly 60 year old trying to be 30 again.
Show is running 30 minutes overtime.
Queen Latifah and Charlize Theron both looked beautiful in their white gowns.
"Argo" wins best adapted screenplay.
Quentin Tarantino wins best original screenplay for "Django Unchained". I was thrilled with this choice.
Funny how they still have time for so many commercials even when running way over the time deadline.
Jane Fonda's dress is very bright.
Ang Lee wins Best Director for "Life of Pi". I was hoping the director of "Beasts of the Southern Wild" would win. It was a terrific first film by Benh Zeitlin.
Jennifer Lawrence trips up the stairs while accepting her Best Actress award. Hugh Jackman runs to help her. I thought the dress needed a little volume control. I am glad with this win. She is such a down to earth woman. May Hollywood never changed her inner soul. She even wishes fellow nominee Emmanuelle Riva a "Happy Birthday" in her acceptance speech.
No Surprise, Daniel Day-Lewis wins his third Best Actor award for his unforgettable role as Abraham Lincoln. I like his dark navy suit. He has a very humorous speech. He speaks very highly of his wife, director, Rebecca Miller.
It's always very exciting to see Jack Nicholson at the awards. He presented for Best Picture but shared his time with first lady, Michelle Obama on a t.v. screen. I thought that was dumb, either come present at the live show or leave Jack to do it himself. It threw the already stressed moment's timing all off. "Argo" won best picture. I wish "Django Unchained" or "Beasts of the Southern Wild" won. Or why not give it to "Life of Pi" since it won countless technical awards and best director. The awards won this year were very scattered.
However, Ben Affleck's acceptance speech for best picture was very touching. He spoke about him winning years ago as a young man and the obstacles he has had to overcome to get to this moment in time. He spoke about not holding grudges and picking oneself back up when fallen. He also spoke very kindly about his wife, Jennifer Gardner and their three children.
The show ended sometime shortly after midnight. Overall, I thought it went well.
Onto the PARTIES!!
