2019 Oscar Rant

Sunday, February 24, 2019
91st Academy Awards
8:00 pm
No Host

8:00 pm: Queen opens in honor of the Freddy Mercury biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody".  I have to say I was underwhelmed.  They only sang "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions".  I thought they'd sing more. Also Adam Lambert replaced Freddie Mercury and the truth is... he sounds NOTHING like him.  So no thank you.  The set design is not so pretty. I hate the white icing on the edge of the stage.

I'm also underwhelmed by Adam Lambert's Tom Ford tux on the red carpet.  It was just a regular boring tux with large white cuff.  Even Spike Lee wore something more outrageous than that.

8:06 pm: Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph come out on stage.  Tina Fey is wearing a beautiful royal blue dress.  I love the fit. She looks so regal.  The hair, the simple make-up and simple jewelry.  Perfection.  One of my Best Dressed.   Amy Poehler is wearing a cool tuxedo with sloppy hair and make-up, she looks hip.  Now Maya Rudolph is wearing the worst pink floral dress with a cape.  It's designed by Giambattista Valli.  It looks curtains from the 70s. One of my worst dressed.  They do a cute skit.  They mock how this year has no host.  They present the award for Best Supporting actress to Regina King who has been in the business forever and this is her first win for "If Beale Street Could Talk".  She is wearing a stunning white Oscar de la Renta dress.

Lady Gaga has a wild black Alexander McQueen dress.  One of my best dressed.  It has these very wide, structured hips.  She has on fancy black leather gloves, a huge diamond necklace last worn by Audrey Hepburn.  Her white hair and make-up are beautiful.

8:14 pm: Jason Momoa and Helen Mirren are both wearing pink.  I don't like either outfit.  He's wearing a velvet fitted Fendi tux.  Her pink Schiaparelli would be nicer in a more mature color.  They present for best documentary.  The award goes to "Free Solo".  The winner's dress is looks extremely see  through.

8:25 pm: Every other category had 5 nominees and for some ridiculous reason makeup had 3 which is extremely insulting.  It's an honor just to be nominated and to have that on someone's resume could change lives so why deny anyone that? Not cool academy.  "Vice" wins.

Lucy Boynton is wearing a very vibrant purple Rodarte dress with black trim.  The off the shoulders and cut looks very Victorian.  Very pretty.  One of my best dressed.

8:28pm: Melissa McCarthy and Brian Tyree Henry present best costume design in full blown Victorian costumes with tons of toy rabbits.  Ruth Carter wins for "Black Panther".  Her dress is brown and blue .

Melissa McCarthy's outfit had potential but it was just not well tailored.  Its a Brandon Maxwell tux with a white cape.  the top it too tight and the waist line is too high and the pants are too wide.  I don't love her hair or make-up either.  Oh Well.

8:38 pm: Jennifer Lopez is in an amazing mirror dress by Tom Ford and Chris Evans looks very handsome in a blue velvet tux.  Production design goes to "Black Panther."

Emma Stone is wearing a horrible Louis Vuitton gold dress.  It has pointy structured shoulders and a bee hive textured print.  Hate it.  One of my worst dressed.

8:44 pm: Tyler Perry presents best cinematography to "Roma", rightly so cause the camera angles were breathtaking.

Glenn Close is wearing a huge gold Carolina Herrera dress.  It has a very long train.  I heard it had like a million crystal sequins sewn on and weighted close to 50 lbs.  Its is very nice but I wish it was a tighter fit.  She has such a slender body and she is being swallowed by this heavy dress.  It looks more like a graduation gown.

8:46 pm: First song performed is from the documentary RBG.  "Our fight" sung by Jennifer Hudson.  She is wearing a sexy Pamella Roland tuxedo with a big belt and long train.  Props for keeping off the weight for so many years.  She looks amazing.

Jennifer Hudson looks great in a tight one sleeved Reem Acra red dress.

8:55 pm: Danai Gurira from "Black Panther" looks nice in her gold Brock dress.  Sound Editing goes to "Bohemian  Rhapsody". Sound Mixing goes to "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Amy Adams is wearing a simple and forgettable Atelier Versace white and silver dress.

9:05 pm: Angela Basset doesn't age. She's wearing a pink Reem Acra dress. She presents with Javier Bardem Best Foreign Language film to "Roma". Well deserved that was quite the movie.  gut wrenching.  Congrats to director Alfonso Cuaron.

First time actress Yalitza Aparicio from "Roma" looks lovely in this one shoulder mint green Rodarte dress.

9:08 pm: Keegan-Michael Key floats down from the sky holding an open umbrella.  He presents the second song of the night "Where Lost Things Go" from "Mary Poppins Returns" Performed by Bette Midler. Her flower dress is terrible.  Its ugly primary colored daisies.  It's see through and is wearing a big blue girdle underneath.  Its straight off the Marc Jacob's runway but even the 20 year old model looks terrible in it.  Yuck! this is one of my worst dressed.

9:17 pm: Michael Keaton presents for film editing to "Bohemian Rhapsody"

9:21 pm: Charlize Theron wearing another boring Dior dress. I hate this whole outfit, the light blue longed sleeved dress, the heavy jewelry, the orange lip stick and especially the dark hair.  Some people look great as brunettes, its a rare look in Hollywood but she absolutely needs to stay blond.  Daniel Craig looks handsome. Best supporting actor goes to Mahershala Ali for "Green Book".  This is 2 for 2 for him, congrats.  I don't get the hat though, to me this is inappropriate for a black-tie affair.

9:30 pm: Michelle Yeoh from "Crazy Rich Asians" looks so elegant in this beautiful silver sequined and nude colored Elie Saab dress.  Pharrell always takes fashion risks but I don't like the short pants camouflage tux. Best animated film goes to "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse".

9:33 pm: Third song performed tonight is "When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings" from the Coen Brothers film "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs".  Sung by David Rawlings and Gillian Welch. They are dressed to the nines in cowboy garb.  I love this song.  simple and beautiful.

Kelly Ripa's silver and tiny black flower printed Christian Siriano dress is a bit juvenile.  Man, Siriano was busy this award season.  Watch the new season of Project Runaway on Bravo!  He's replacing Tim Gunn.

9:41 pm: A "Wayne's World" reunion.  A heavier Mike Myers and older Dana Carvey present nominated film "Bohemian Rhapsody".

9:46 pm: Awkwafina and John Mulaney come out to present Best Documentary short film.  Her hair is too long and swallows her face.  Don't love her Dsquared2 metallic lilac suit. His floral Pal Zileri tux jacket is a bit nutty. "Period. End of Sentence." wins.

Queen Latifah's black sequin Michael Costello dress is a bit too tight and not very flattering.  It looks like she's wrapped in duct tape.

9:55 pm: Sarah Paulson's pink Brandon Maxwell dress is horrendous. One of my worst dressed.  I  don't get the style at all.  I hate when a woman slicks her hair down super tight.  It looks awful.  Even on pretty woman, it just looks so unflattering.  I hated when Gwyneth Paltrow did it at the 1998 Oscars, I still hate it.  Special effects goes to "First Man"  That movie's only award for the night.  That was a pretty good movie unfortunately it didn't get much press.

Marina de Tavira from "Roma" is wearing a red frilly J. Mandel dress.

10:00 pm: Without announcing it, the fourth song of the night is "The Shallows" from "A Star is Born".  Perform by the multi-talented Lady Gaga and the male star of the movie Bradley Cooper. Fabulous performance, obviously this song is going to win. The fifth song nominated tonight is "All the Stars" from "Black Panther".  Unfortunately, Kendrick Lamar can not perform it due to scheduling issues.

Rachel Weisz is one of my worst dressed with this ridiculously red Givenchy dress.  Its has a wide rubber crop top and a red bottom.  and it's not a deep red, its a loud tacky red.  brrr so ugly.

10:09 pm: Samuel L. Jackson and Brie Larson in a sexy silver Celine dress present for Best Original Screenplay. "Greenbook" wins.  Writing is such a huge award I think it deserves new presenters but Best Adapted Screenplay gets the same presenters, whatever.  The winner goes to Spike Lee for "BlacKkKlansman".  Lee wins for the first time.  He is so excited he leaps into Jackson's arms.  He is in an all purple Oswald Boateng suit.  In memory of his close friend he wears a Prince "symbol" necklace.

I love Sting's wife, Trudie Styler's white dress with a peak of silver down the chest.  I reminds me of Jamie Lee Curtis's Golden Globe dress.

10:22 pm: Michael B. Jordan looks quite handsome.  I don't love the lower half of Tessa Thompson's black and gold Chanel dress.  I wish it was free flowing and not straps.  Best Score goes to "Black Panther".

Billy Porter shocks us again by wearing a tux on top and a huge velvet skirt on the bottom.  My goodness it looks expensive.  Beautifully made by Christian Siriano.

10:25 pm: Chadwick Boseman has on a sparkly black tux jacket by Givenchy and Constance Wu has a very pretty yellow Versace dress.  They present Best Song to Lady Gaga and Mark Ronson for "The Shallows" from "A Star is Born"

Octavia Spencer looks amazing in this super elegant off the shoulder navy dress.  Christian Siriano dressed her again this year and again she looks stellar.  One of my best dressed.

10:30 pm: The most depressing part of the show is the "In Memoriam" .. such talent lost... Neil Simon, Burt Reynolds, Penny Marshall, Stan Lee, William Goldman, James Karen, and Albert Finney.

10:39 pm: Cicely Tyson receives an Honorary Oscar for her achievement in film.

10:42 pm: Allison Janney dress looks nice but I don't love the fabric in front, look like an apron.  It's a black Pamela Roland tuxedo dress.  Lots of pink and gender neutral outfits this year.  She towers over Gary Oldman.  Actor in a Leading Role goes to Rami Malek for "Bohemian Rhapsody". Well deserved, he could feel he poured his soul into that role. Very moving speak.

Emilia Clarke looks pretty in a nice lavender strapless Balmain gown.

10:56 pm: Beautiful Francis McDormand again wears zero make-up to the Oscars.  She wears a hot pink Valentino dress with yellow suede Valentino Birkenstocks.  Love it, what a rebel!! and Sam Rockwell shaved his hair to play the role of Bob Fosse. They present Best Actress to Olivia Colman for her role in "The Favourite".  I really hate this Prada dress.  The green color plus this bazaar gray wrap around the shoulders.  Love her speeches, they are so scatterbrained but so genuine.

11:06 pm: Best Director goes to  Alfonso Cuaron.  Deservingly so, "Roma" was a phenomenal film.

11:13 pm: Julia Roberts looks amazingly young and sexy in hot pink one shoulder Elie Saab dress. One of my best dressed.  Best Picture goes to "Greenbook".  I have to say I'm quite surprised, I really thought "Roma" had it in the bag.

THE END.  good show.

BEST DRESSED: Tina Fey
WORST DRESSED: Bette Midler

2019 Golden Globes Rant

The 76th Golden Globes Awards
Sunday, January 6, 2019: 8 pm
Hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh

8 pm: First let's think of how hard it is to be a host and make everyone in the room laugh.  Most people knock it but have never actually tried it.  Andy and Sandra make small jokes about the Oscars having no host.  Message is there is no freedom of speech, not with modern technology. Sandra wear a simple v-neck red dress.

8:11 pm: the Jim Carrey bit was funny.  Elisabeth Moss is wearing a tiny navy Dior dress. Doesn't really fit the event.  I'm so over Charlize Theron's millionth boring Dior dress.

8: 13 pm: I like Bradley Cooper's white tux and Lady Gaga's longed trained off the shoulders blue Valentino dress with blue hair look.  The necklace is mesmerizing. Michael Douglas wins best actor in a comedy tv series for the "Kominsky Method".  He looks very old and has zero to none eyebrows.  He thanks his 102 year old father, Kirk Douglas.

8:16 pm: The Black Panther cast: Chadwick Boseman looks dapper in his white satin tux.  Danai Gurira looks great in a sexy one shoulder red Rodarte dress.  I don't love Lupita Nyong'o blue fringe Calvin Klein dress or her glasses.  Can Michael B. Jordan ever look bad?? (fan of his since "The Wire")

8:19 pm: "Spider-Man: into the Spider-verse" wins best animated film over Disney's "Incredibles 2".

8:25 pm: Emma Stone loves wearing peach and yet the color always washes her out especially in this Louis Vuitton dress and the red eye shadow is a miss.  Rachel Weisz loves to wear black and white.  This top of the Celine dress looks like the puffy shirt from "Seinfeld". and I don't love the short hair cut on Olivia Colman.  The top of her black Stella McCartney dress looks too much like fish net stockings.

8: 26 pm: I like Kaley Cuoco's navy top with white skirt Monique Lhuillier dress.  Like Johnny Galecki's sequin tux jacket.

8:30 pm: "The Americans" wins best drama tv series.  Allison Janney is wearing a beautiful light blue long sleeved, off the shoulder Christian Siriano dress...long sleeves just always make dresses look so elegant.

8:38 pm: Wow! just like Colin Hanks sounds exactly like his dad Tom...John David Washington sounds exactly like his dad, Denzel.

8:39 pm: this is the night of v-neck dresses and smashed boobs.  Theses actresses' boobs look so taped and smashed down you think there was a hurricane coming. Not flattering.  Taraji P. Henson has on a green velvet v-neck Vera Wang dress w smashed boobs and Gina Rodriguez has on a nicer light blue very glittered v-neck Reem Acra dress.

8:42 pm: Jamie Lee Curtis looks 85 years old.  Hate the died white hair and pencil drawn brown eye brows.  Makes her forehead look huge.  She looks like an 1980s Brigitte Nielson.  The star earrings should have been  a simple dangling tread.  I do Love her white and gold Alexander Wang dress though. Her body is great.

8:44 pm: Patricia Arquette wins best actress in a limited tv series for "Escape From Dannemora."  Her black Vivian Westwood dress is so tight up top, her boobs are pooling out the top, same as last time she won.  Do love her black glasses.  First person to be bleeped. good speech.

8:52 pm: Lucy Lui hands down worst dressed. What is this an art project?? It looks like she had a pink gown on and then a food fight broke out.  Then too late she threw a clear poncho over herself to protect her gown.  (Designer was Galia Lahav.)

8:53 pm: Steve Carrell gives the first "Carrol Burnett Award" to her for a life time achievement in t.v. I've always admired her. They show funny clips from her variety show.  Her speech is mostly dedicated to her cast and crew for that show.  She wears a black dress with a pretty gold Bob Mackie coat...very age appropriate.

9:04 pm: I'm loving Taylor Swift's black off the shoulders diamond cut out netted Versace dress. Idris Elba wears a green tux. Very handsome. "First Man" wins best score.

9:06 pm: "Shallow" from "A Star is Born" wins best song.  That was obvious. Lady Gaga has a beautiful voice but Bradley Cooper surprises.  Beautiful song...good job again, Mark Ronson.

9:14 pm: the audience is so loud in background. Damn drunks. hahaha. Funny moment with Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh.. they show their most inspiring moments from the past Golden Globes which is when they both won awards. hahah.

9:15 pm: Octavia Spencer looks great in a black sequin Christian Siriano dress.  What kind of S and M torture Louis Vuitton tux is Timothee Chalamet wearing??

9:17 pm: Regina King finally wins an award!  She's been in the business for over 30 years.  Hot pink sequin Roberta Ferretti dress. Gives a moving speech about hiring more women in the film industry.

9:21 pm: Megan Mullally walks on stage and says "we're available to Regina." Damn, I love her but I kinda hate her navy wrinkled dress and flat straight hair, not flattering.  Kristen Bell always looks like a little fairy. nice pink v-neck Zuhair Murad dress and simple natural hair. Sandra Oh wins best actress in a t.v. drama for "Killing Eve".
Just putting this out there...Megan Mullally and her husband Nick Offerman to host the Oscars???

9:28 pm: ha Sandra Oh comes back from commercial break with her award in hand. Samberg is jealous. Ok, so I've said this a million times but its clear Maya Rudolph has no stylist.  Year after year her dresses suck! this year is no different....a layered bathrobe Valentino black dress. It makes her look pregnant. Her hair looks wet and a mess.  Amy Poehler looks nice in a pale green Viktor and Rolf dress with black bottom.  Mahershala Ali wins best supporting actor for "Green Book."

9:32 pm: Maya Rudolph does a dumb sketch where she proposes to Amy Poehler.  Not funny...zzz fest.  Best screenplay goes to "Green Book".

9:39 pm: Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy present as a couple. love her simple gold Laura Basci dress but again the flat boobies, makes her looks too skinny.  Best supporting actress in a tv series goes to  Patricia Clarkson for "Sharp Objects".  I feel like She always wears red?

9:42 pm: Saoirse Ronan's Gucci dress color is "see thru" and silver.  I love the green earrings but hate the orange lips and slicked down hair.  Best actor in a musical/ comedy goes to Christian Bale for "Vice".  Who compares Dick Chaney to Satin. haha he's so cockney. such good make up for that role, wow.

9:50 pm: I'm so bias against color.  Catherine Zeta-Jones wears a green fanned top one shoulder Elie Saab gown.. wish is was black or purple but she is beautiful.

9:52 pm: Best foreign language film goes to "Roma".  well deserved, it is flawless.

9:55 pm: Amber Heard wears an odd black and white Monique Lhuillier dress, it's simple but the proportions seem off.  Very pretty girl but she looks completely dazed.

10:03 pm:  Why is Chris Pine presenting the Cecil B. DeMille award to Jeff Bridges? .. I know they did one movie together but come one... Julianna Moore knows him better.  Sam Elliot does the narration which is cool.  Anyway, Jeff can do no wrong.  He really does sound like "the dude".  Moving speech about ship propellers and how we all can make a positive change in the world.

10:25 pm: Best actress tv series comedy goes to Rachel Brosnahan for the "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."  ok yellow Prada dress. kinda washes her out. Best tv comedy series goes to "the Kominsky method".

10:35 pm: Emily Blunt always looks elegant, in a silver sequin cut out Alexander McQueen dress.  Dick Van Dyke is 93 years old and walks out with a cane. He is very charming.

10:37 pm: Halle Berry looks amazing in her red Zuhair Murad long sleeved dress. She's like Jennifer Lopez...she doesn't age. Best tv mini series goes to "the Assassination of Gianni Versace".  Powerful speech about gay rights.

10:45 pm: Once again Anne Hathaway is dressed like a fool. With a leather and sheer leopard print Elie Saab dress with a big ugly slit in front. (just cause it's a famous designer doesn't mean it should be worn on a red carpet).  Jessica Chastain in a forgettable black Burberry dress.  I don't like her slicked back pony tail hair or her orange earrings. They present Olivia Colman with best actress in a leading role in a comedy/musical film.  Her speech is very funny and natural.  Thanking the staff for the sandwiches and her "bitches" Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz.  Britains always say the most hilarious outlandish things.

10:47 pm: call me old fashion but I just don't get Janelle Monae's fashion sense...a navy knit Chanel dress with a long t-shirt hanging out the bottom with a Cleopatra beaded neck line and a stupid non-matching gold hat. too much. You're wearing a Chanel dress and Coco Chanel was famous for saying "before you leave the house take off one accessory"....words of wisdom.

10:53 pm: Wow, Mike Myers looks blotted in his suit...like the neck is too tight or something. Julia Roberts is wearing a beautiful nude beaded dress with...black slacks?? NO!

10:54 pm: Bill Murphy looks either very old or drunk...perhaps both....but I adore him...so sarcastic.  Best musical/comedy goes to "Green Book" . Director gives a beautiful speech about race issues. Says how this movie tells the tale of two men who were total opposites but grew to respect each other and remain best friends till they both died in 2013. Amazing story.

11:04 pm: Gary Oldman looks great.  Glenn Close wins for "The Wife".  She looks great in her black and silver trimmed Armani dress.  I really thought Gaga would win but I'm so glad that an older nominee won.  She made the most heart warming, tear-jerking speech ever.  It was about her elderly mom and other older women that were submissive to their husbands and raised their children yet didn't get an opportunity to work outside the house. Finally at the end of their lives they feel they have accomplished nothing by just being a "mom and wife". So sad, especially since raising decent children and maintaining a household is one of the hardest jobs out there. To all moms (married and single) who try and fill their homes with love and morals.... I am in AWE of you.

11:13 pm: Julianne Moore is wearing a white Givenchy dress. Richard Gere makes the most uncomfortable comment of the night....unlike most stars that tell their kids to "go to bed now" from the stage.. He oddly tells his (30 years younger) wife to go to bed...yuck..talk about  creepy.  He definitely has aged quite a bit recently.  Best actor in a drama film goes to Rami Malek for "Bohemian Rhapsody." very well deserved.  He looks sophisticated in a white bow tie Givenchy tux.  He is very humble.

11:18 pm: Nicole Kidman looks dynamite in a tight long sleeved maroon Michael Kors leather dress.  "Bohemian Rhapsody" wins best drama. Queen band members are so excited and join them on stage. Big shout out to the late Freddy Mercury.

The End

2018 Oscar Rant

Sunday March 4, 2018
90th Ceremony
8:00 pm
Host: Jimmy Kimmel

8 pm: Opening Monologue is funny. Of course Harvey Weinstein is mentioned and how he was kicked out of the academy.  Jimmy offers a jet ski to whoever has the shortest acceptance speech.

Meryl Streep nominated tonight for "The Post" making it her 21st time.  Looking stunning in a simple red Dior dress.

WOW! Whoopi Goldberg's Christian Siriano green and purple floral dress is god awful.. It is so loud on the red carpet.  It's too much print and too much fabric.  One of worst dressed ever.

8:15 pm: Viola Davis is wearing a very loud Michael Kors hot pink dress. The top half of her hair is pulled back so tight she looks bald. hate it.  Sam Rockwell wins for Best Supporting Actor in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". Well deserved. very funny speech.  He thanks anyone that has ever "looked" at a billboard. ha. Dedicates award to Philip Seymour Hoffman.  ( by the way, he is wearing cufflinks with his long time love, Leslie Bibb's name on them.)

Emily Blunt's pale blue lace Schiaparelli dress is too ancient looking.  Something for the series "Little House on the Prairie". Looks like it should be in a museum.

8:26 pm: Gal Gabot's gold Givenchy dress is super sparkly and gorgeous.

Laurie Metcalf nominated for her first Oscar tonight for "Lady Bird".  She looks nice in a simply cut, pale pink Christian Siriano dress.

8:30 pm: 94 year old Eve Marie Saint dressed in Landero presents the award for best costume to "Phantom Thread".  She's still beautiful.

Lesley Manville is nominated for her first Oscar tonight for "Phantom Thread."  Her Anne Valentine dress looks more like yarn or a shag carpet.

8:40 pm: Greta Gerwig looks nice in a yellow Rodarte gown and Laura Dern in a beautiful white Calvin Klein dress.

Sally Hawkins is wearing a loose fitting Armani dress with big shoulder pads. Wish it was a bit more form fitting.  She's nominated for her second time tonight for "The Shape of Water".

8:43 pm: Taraji P. Henson's slit in her black Vera Wang dress is a little too close for comfort to her privates.

Octavia Spencer is back her second year in a row for being nominated.  This year for best supporting actress in "The Shape of Water".  She is wearing a beautiful green Brandon Maxwell dress.

Timothee Chalamet looks handsome in an all white Berluti tux.  Matthew McConaughey is wearing a black Brioni tux with a maroon bow tie. Lin-Manuel Miranda is wearing a blue blazer.

8:55 pm: Great montage of the past 90 years in movies.

Mary J. Blige looks lovely in this classy white Versace dress.

9:08 pm: I don't love Lupita Nyong'o gold and black Versace dress. The beaded sash going across her chest looked like bullets for a mini chain gun.

Screenplay nominee Emily V. Gordon looks fabulous in a gold J. Mandel gown. I love the cut and simplicity of it. One of my Best dressed. She's nominated for her biopic "The Big Sick".

9:22 pm: Rita Morano dress is very ugly, and the skirt is very box-like.  Although I heard its the same dress she wore in 1962 to win her Oscar for "West Side Story".   Damn! Her body is still amazing at 86! and to still be able to fit into that dress, that's like fitting into your old Prom dress.  Best foreign language film "A Fantastic Women"

9:28 pm: Best supporting actress goes to Allison Janney for "I, Tonya".  She looks amazing in this red Reem Acra dress.  Reminds me of what Julia Roberts wore in "Pretty Woman".

9:41 pm: CoCo wins best animated film.

9:55 pm: Film editing goes to "Dunkirk"

Oh my goodness I really hate this pink boring and badly cut Calvin Klein dress on Saoirse Ronan.  What a disaster.  It does nothing for her. The haircut is too simple. I'm having flash backs from 1998 when Gwenyth Paltrow wore that horrible pink dress.  Such a miss. She is usually spot on with her dresses.

10:06 pm: A Bunch of actors are sneaking into a crowded movie theater to surprise fans. Margot Robbie and Emily Blunt give out candy.  Ansel Elgort and Lin-Mauel Miranda shoot a hot dog cannon. Fans are shocked.

10:10 pm: Maya Rudolph walks out holding her shoes.  Her Valentino dress is just awful. She has a funny moment but her dress looks like a red Santa sack. Yuck. and its a turtle neck...its like a sweater a grandma forgot to stop knitting and it ran too long.

Adam Rippon's Moschino tux is absolutely ridiculous with those leather straps.  Looks like a matching band member that lost his drum.

10:25 pm:  Ashley Judd looks amazing in a strapless plum Badgley Mischka dress, Annabella Sciorra looks great in black, and Salma Hayek's lilac Gucci dress is a bit much with all those gold chains. They take this time to address the cause "Times Up".

10:30 pm: Margot Robbie looks nice in a white Chanel dress. Although the shoulder drape looks a bit like Christmas garland. Best adapted screenplay goes to 89 year old James Ivory for "Call Me by Your Name".  He is one of the oldest award winners ever.

10:37 pm: Nicole Kidman's blue Armani dress with the huge over sized bow in her lap is quite ugly. Best original screenplay goes to Jordan Peele for "Get Out".

10:42 pm: Sandra Bullock is wearing a gold and black Louis Vuitton dress I am not crazy about. Best Cinematography goes to "Blade Runner: 2049"

11:05: Memorial moment presented by a blue Versace dress wearing Jennifer Gardner.  Eddie Vedder sings a Tom Petty song.  Remembering Jonathan Demme, John Heard, Martin Landau, Glenne Headly, Roger Moore, Sam Shepard, Don Rickles, Jerry Lewis and more.

11:13 pm: Where did Emma Stone think she was going today? To a job interview?  I hate this red Louis Vuitton blazer with the pink bow and black slacks. What a joke.  Best Director goes to Guillermo Del Toro for "The Shape of Water".  Very heart felt speech.  He gets choked up when quoting actor Jimmy Cagney.

11:20 pm: Jane Fonda looks timeless in her white Balmain dress.  I love the collar line. So sharp, so sophisticated. Stellar and Helen Mirren looks stunning in this simple Reem Acra blue dress with a huge sapphire necklace. These women don't age!! Best actor goes to Gary Oldman for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "The Darkest Hour".  Endearing speech. says to "put the kettle on".

11:35 pm: Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning in this gold Dior dress.  So hot, looks like body armor. Jodie Foster is wearing a classic white suit and is hobbling on stage with crutches.  They make a joke that Streep wacked her.  Best Actress goes to a well deserved Frances McDormand for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".  cool speech. She asks all female nominees to stand up with her during her speech. She's wearing a very covered up black and gold dress, possibly Valentino.  She wears no make-up and is still one of the most beautiful woman there.  Such a breath of fresh air in plastic Hollywood.

11:40 pm: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway (in the same Esteban Cortazar as last year) get a second chance to present Best Picture after last year's goof. This year's definite winner is "The Shape of Water".  Guillermo Del Toro double checks the envelope. He says he will not win the "jet ski" for shortest speech... haha

After running very over time...that's a wrap.  I better See you All Next Year. What fun.

P.S. Helen Mirren presented "Phantom Thread" costume designer Mark Bridges with the Jet Ski for the shortest acceptance speech.

BEST DRESSED: Jane Fonda
WORST DRESSED: Maya Rudolph

2018 Golden Globes Rant

75th Annual Golden Globes Ceremony
Sunday January 7, 2018: 8 pm
Hosted by Seth Meyers

All the women and most the men on the red carpet are wearing shades of black in unison for the "Time's Up" movement for women's rights. Including the fight for equality in pay and the stop of sexual misconduct.

8:00 pm: Show starts with Seth Meyers' opening speech. I Don't think he is that funny. I think Amy Poelher and Tina Fey are funnier. Even Ricky Gervais.

I don't know who Allison Williams is but she definitely has one of the ugliest dresses of the night.  She has a straight black dress with this giant orange beaded semicircle on her chest. Yuck. And this other girl named Alison Sudol is wearing a black dress with little colorful sewn patches on it.  Looks like she thinks she is at Coachella not the Golden Globes.

Wow! Debra Messing looks like a wreck.  First off her eyebrows are penciled on in a crazy arch so she looks like a movie villain.  Next..what is she wearing?.. a dress which has its crotch missing over a pair of slacks that are too big. Terrible look from designer Christian Siriano.

8:15 pm: Nicole Kidman wins best actress in a limited TV series for "Big Little Lies".  She is wearing a beautiful black Givenchy Haute Couture dress with delicate Chantilly lace on top. Love it.

Millie Bobby Brown from "Stranger Things" looks nice in her Calvin Klein dress. Those shoes are quite sparkly.  She is only 13 years old though,  I hope she stays grounded in this business.

8:20 pm: Sam Rockwell wins best supporting actor in a drama for his role in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". Very good movie.  His acting in it is outstanding.

I hate Jessica Biel's Dior Couture dress. It is pink with black sheer over it.  It has a half moonlike cut out across the front.  It looks childish and her lipstick is too pink. I don't get it! She is gorgeous but 99% of the time I hate everything she wears to award shows.  Her style is so odd.  I really wish she'd get a better, more sober stylist.

8:33 pm: Jennifer Aniston presents with Carol Burnett. Aniston's dress is quite a snooze fest.  Carol is age appropriately dressed. Love her. Elisabeth Moss wins for best actress in a TV drama for "The Handmaid's Tale".  I do not like her fully covered matronly black Dior Haute Couture dress with the silver collar. Way too old looking for her.

Loving the back of Dakota Johnson's $20,000 crystal-embroidered organza Gucci dress. Very detailed.

8:50 pm: Roseanne Barr and John Goodman present for best TV drama. Goodman looks great after losing some weight. Good for him. Roseanne has never looked better in her v-neck black dress. "Handmaid's Tale" wins best TV drama.

Ugg Pamela Adlon was so close to perfection in this black sequin lined skirt with the satin jacket.  I only wish the sequin top under the jacket was a tube top cut rather then a v-neck cut.

9 pm: Mariah Carey looks nice in her hour glass mermaid cut Dolce and Gabbana dress. Best score goes to "The Shape of Water".  Next award is presented by Kelly Clarkson. I hate this dress. The one gold sleeve, one black. Oh, its so ugly and so literal. yikes, another epic fail for designer Christian Siriano.  The award goes to "The Greatest Showman" for best song.

9:05 pm: Shirley McLaine looks great in her usual pants suit and Emma Stone's black lace dress is forgettable.  They present the award for Best actor in a comedy/musical film to James Franco for his role in "The Disaster Artist". The movie is based on an oddball movie made by a director named Tommy Wiseau. Franco calls Tommy on stage but stops him from talking into the microphone. Doesn't want him to steal Franco's thunder. Well, that and he would probably say some extremely odd stuff. After speech James Franco and his brother Dave are escorted back stage while Tommy is escorted back to his seat. Hilarious.

I'm not loving Salma Hayek's black one piece, tight, leotard looking Balenciaga dress.  She has looked so much better in the past

9:15 pm: J.K. Simmons looking dapper and at 59 Sharon Stone looks banging in this sexy black cut out dress. She has certainly aged nicely.  Wish she acted more.  They present for Best supporting actress in a limited series to Laura Dern for "Big Little Lies". Dern looks ageless in her sheer v-neck Armani Prive dress.

Not feeling Sarah Jessica Parker's Dolce and Gabbana dress.  It's like a hot mess of mixed matched fabrics. None of which make a complete dress.

9:30 pm: Kate Hudson presents for best supporting actress. Kate's body looks great in a very revealing v-neck sheer black Valentino Couture dress.  Allison Janney wins award for "I, Tonya".  This movie was very good and she had to play a very disturbed mother.  She looks stunning in this very sophisticated and detailed black and white Mario Dice cut out dress.  It looks more like a piece of art or a painting.

Janney is congratulated by "I, Tonya" star Margot Robbie whose Gucci dress I do not like.  Too much junk on the front.  Tonya Harding is actually sitting with them at their table.  She looks very refined in her black peek-a-boo waistline dress.

9:40 pm: Kirk Douglas and his daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta-Jones present award for Best film screenplay.  Lots of sheer tonight.  Zeta-Jones looks incredible in this Zuhair Murad Couture lace black dress. On the other hand Kirk Douglas looks ancient and rightly so cause he is 101 years old.  But do we need to keep rolling him out on stage during these awards?  Catherine is like 10 feet tall and he was so small and frail next to her.  They also didn't lower the mic when he talked which on top of him having had a stroke it made him very difficult to hear and understand. But whatever, best wishes to him.  He is one of the few stars left in which was in black and white films. "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" wins best screenplay and deservingly so.

9:45 pm: Ewan McGregor wins best actor in a limited TV series for "Fargo". Love him.

Shailene Woodley looks very sophisticated in this Ralph Lauren black and silver checkered turtle neck dress.  She kinda looks like a modern cowgirl.

10:10 pm: Reese Witherspoon's black Zac Posen dress is simple and boring. Oprah looks amazing in a perfectly fitted Versace off the shoulder dress. She wins the Cecil B. Demille Award for lifetime achievement.  She definitely deserves it since she has done so much to help others with her fame and fortune.  She makes a very moving speech that brings most the audience to tears.  I'm in awe of any woman that represents women in a powerful, positive and independent light without having ever married or had children.

Damn Halle Berry can not look any better than she does right now in this tiny sheer Zuhair Murad dress. Those legs....

10:20 pm: Guillermo Del Toro wins Best film director for "The Shape of Water". I am a fan of his dramas.

Viola Davis' Brandon Maxwell black dress is very underwhelming and I'm not loving the wild hair style.

10:35 pm: Jessica Chastain and Chris Hemsworth present for Best actress in a comedy film.  I like the black Armani Prive dress with the peak of silver under Chastain's arms that sweeps to her back.  Hemsworth looks handsome as hell.  Saoirse Ronan (pronounced Sir-Sha) wins award for "Lady Bird".  Her black and silver Versace dress looks a little "Star Trek" like.  I also think that her bleach blond hair washes out her already pale skin.

Love, love Alexis Bledel's black and white Oscar del la Renta look. I love the white top with the simple vine draped across it. Love the fitted black slacks with the sash on the hip. Great style. Very Audrey Hepburn.

10:40 pm: Michael Keaton and Alicia Vikander present for Best Comedy Film.  Vikander is wearing a beautiful Victorian style Louis Vuitton dress.  It is modest yet very appealing, Elisabeth Moss should take pointers from her stylist.  Greta Gerwig wins for "Lady Bird." Gerwig is wearing a simple one shoulder strap black dress with a swoop neck line. This is a very surprising and overwhelming moment for her. Congrats! (should have been nominated for best director.)

10:50 pm: Geena Davis and Susan Saradon (Thelma and Louise) reunite to present the award for Best actor in a film drama.  Davis is wearing a lace and sequin plunging neck line black dress and Saradon is dressed down in a Saint Laurent black tux.  She replaces the tie for a pair of black pumps.  Gary Oldman wins for "The Darkest Hour" in which he plays Winston Churchill.

11:00 pm: Angelina Jolie looks like she is wearing a 1970's black neglige (Versace) that she forgot to take off from her bad movie "By the Sea". Isabelle Huppert looks quite elegant in her high necked sequin dress.  She awards Frances McDormand for best actress in a film drama for her role as a bereaved mother in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri".  I don't know what kind of black frock she is wearing but I will keep my comment to myself because her talent is untouchable.  She deserved every bit of that award.  Her speech is quite hilarious.

Mary J. Blige looks great in her one sleeved silver and black Alberta Ferretti dress. She was very good in "Mudbound" in which she was nominated for tonight.

11:10 pm: Barbra Streisand is wearing a simple velvet pant suit to present the last award for the night for Best film drama.  She also makes a note that no women directors were nominated tonight and that no women have won since herself in 1984 for "Yentl". That is shameful.  "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" takes home the Big prize for the night.

That's it from Hollywood, join me again for my Oscar Rant in March!
