Sunday, January 5, 2019: 8 pm
Hosted by Ricky Gervais
8:00 pm: Ricky walks out with what looks a huge glass of whiskey. He announces this is the last time he will be hosting these awards. (Shame). He says "I don't care anymore. No, I'm joking, I never cared". He said he only got to do this 5 times because the Hollywood Foreign Press can't speak english. He tells the stars not to make political speeches after winning an award because they are all hypocrites.
8:10 pm: Jennifer Aniston is in a snooze fest of a dress by Christian Dior. She's wearing black as usual. The collar of the dress comes up so high that her hair is falling behind it. She should have wore her hair up. Reese Witherspoon is wearing a nice white dress by Roland Mouret. I really hate her pin straight slicked down hair. That looks never goes over well.
8:12 pm: Russell Crowe wins best actor in a limited tv series for "The Loudiest Voice". He could not attend because he is home in Australia helping with the wild fires.
Annette Bening's black Christian Siriano dress is too much. Huge puffy sleeves at the wrists and a thick diamond turtle neck collar. It looks like something you would wear in a casket.
Sofia Vergara looks stunning in a maroon and gold Dolce and Gabbana strapless, fitted dress.
8:21 pm: Stellan Skarsgard wins best supporting actor in a limited tv series for "Chernobyl". He thanks his make-up artist for helping him win by giving him eyebrows. Funny.
Kerry Washington's outfit by Altuzarra is one of my worst dressed of the night. First off she forgot her shirt. She is wearing a suit jacket which must be glued to her breasts to avoid a sudden "nip slip". A giant chain down the center and a silk skirt with a big slit. yuck.
Love Rachel Brosnahan's simple eggplant colored dress by Michael Kors. One of my best dressed.
8:34 pm: Phoebe Waller-Bridge wins best actress in a tv comedy for "Fleabag". She is wearing a very interesting black and diamond, fitted tux by Ralph and Russo.
Sienna Miller is one of my worst dressed of the night. She is wearing a really ugly beach/easter dress by Gucci. It has a relaxed black strap around the neck, a white bikini top and a pastel green skirt with a pastel yellow belt.
8:45 pm: Comedian Kate McKinnon opened up about how Ellen helped her cope with being a lesbian before introducing the Carol Burnett Award for Lifetime Achievement in television to Ellen Degeneres. Ellen wears a beautiful navy sequined suit by Celine. She was goofy, as usual.
Beyonce's gold sleeves on her Schiaparelli dress are HUGE. I feel bad for the people sitting behind her.
9:03 pm: Brian Cox wins best actor in a tv drama for "Succession". He has been in this business for over 50 years and this is finally his first win. He is shocked.
Golden Globe newcomer Ana de Armas looks amazing in a head to toe navy sequined ballgown by Ralph and Russo. She has amazing skin which looks fabulous with her pop of red lipstick. One of my best dressed of the night.
9:08 pm: I do not love Amy Poehler's green sequined Sergio Hudson dress. The gold belt is throwing it off and the pointy shoulders make it look too "costumey". Now I usually love Taylor Swift's style but holy cannoli what is this woman wearing? It is the most horrid floral print ever. Electric blue with big giant yellow flowers. There's a peek a boo window cut out under her chest. This is definitely one of my worst dressed. Made by Etro. I do have to say her make-up is flawless.
Lucy Boynton definitely stands out in her head to toe silver Louis Vuitton dress. She looks like a crazy baked potato.
9:15 pm: Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio appear on stage. Wow. It don't get more handsome than those two.
9:17 pm: Gwyneth Paltrow is wearing one of the worst dresses of the night. A horrible brown sheer Fendi dress. With a bikini top and striped skirt. It looks like a knitting disaster. Plus the collar comes up to the neck and she's wearing a humongous diamond necklace under the dress. very odd. Laura Dern wins best supporting actress for her role in "Marriage Story". I am underwhelmed by her bohemian style Saint Laurent dress.
9:20 pm: Priyanka Chopra's Pesto-Bismol colored Cristina Ottaviano dress is a bit too "bridesmaid" for my taste. "Fleabag" wins best tv Comedy.
9:28 pm: Dakota Fanning is wearing a ridiculous lilac Christian Dior dress. It has huge puffy shoulders and looks like a flower girl dress. One of my worst dressed. Elton John wins best song for "I'm Gonna Love Me Again." Good song.
9:36 pm: Ricky is just bored by now and just introduces stars. Zoe Kravitz is wearing a polka dot Saint Laurent dress. I kinda like it. It had small white dots on a black top and big dots on the skirt. Patricia Arquette wears a gold and black flowy J. Mendel dress. He boobs are busting out. She wins best supporting actress in a tv movie for "The Act". I don't understand wearing sunglasses on stage. She makes a political speech about the election.
9:39 pm: Olivia Colman is wearing a horrible red Emilia Wickstead dress. The sleeves are terrible. She is so funny but she really needs a stylist. She wins best actress in a tv drama for "The Crown". I love her speeches, she just rambles on.
9:45 pm: Charlize Theron is wearing a Dior dress as always. But instead of her typical safe black or white she decided to take a risk with color with devastating results. It's like a ripped toga. A black corset is showing under a sash of neon green fabric. One of my worst dressed. I am confused as to why she is introducing Tom Hanks for the Cecil B. DeMille Award. He certainly deserves it. His speech is a bit odd.
10:00 pm: Helen Mirren looks absolutely stunning in a beautiful red Dior dress. Love the long flowing skirt, long sleeves, radiant hair and make-up. One of my best dressed of the night. Sam Mendes wins best director for "1917". Very surprised.
10:08 pm: Cate Blanchett always has an avant grade style to most her looks but this dress just missed the mark. It is so odd. It's made by designer Mary Katrantzou who I don't know anything about. But I do know she made Cate look like a seahorse. Butter yellow with fins for arms and a beaded chest. It's just bad.
Michelle Pfeiffer looks amazing in this simple, fun and sexy black Brunello Cucinelli dress. It has a simple, almost tank top like top and a thick black belt and sheer, flowing skirt. I am obsessed with this look. One of the best dressed. She looks ageless.
10:11 pm: Salma Hayek is wearing a blue top and white sequin Gucci dress. I don't mind the dress, the colors are nice together but her chest looks like it is about to shred the dress to pieces. It just is not flattering for her body type. Michelle Williams is wearing a loud orange toga Louis Vuitton dress and it has this odd blue flower on the bare shoulder that just doesn't fit. She wins best actress for a limited tv series for "Fosse/Verdon". Great show. She makes a speech about women's right to choose. Salma jokes about her heavy accent while giving out the award for best limited tv series to "Chernobyl".
10:23 pm: Someone should have told Jennifer Lopez that Christmas is over because her Valentino dress looks like it was made out of left over wrapping paper and bows. It is white and green and has a HUGE gold bow across the front. Shame cause her style is usually impeccable. She's one of my worst dressed tonight. She really can't act. I think they keep her around cause she's so pretty. Joker wins best score. It was quite beautiful.
Rooney Mara wearing a simple Givenchy dress but has these big black flowers on the side of her head and she looks like a Star Wars character. also no make-up which she needs cause she is so pale.
10:26 pm: Brad Pitt wins best supporting actor in a drama for his role in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". He thanks Leo for all his support and tells him "I would have shared the raft." (Funny Titanic reference.)
10:35 pm: Taron Egarton wins best actor in a comedy for his role in "Rocketman". Shocker, everyone thought Leo would win. It's nice when someone new wins.
10:38 pm: Awkwafina wins best actress in a comedy for "The Farewell". She's speechless. Her pouffy collared black and white Christian Dior dress make her look like Susan B. Anthony.
Naomi Watts' Armani dress does nothing for her. Its bland and boring and forgettable.
10:45 pm: Rachel Weisz looks wonderful in her simple Tom Ford black and silver velvet dress.
Greta Gerwig or "homewrecker" as I like to call her looks horrible. The same slimy slicked hair as Reese. Her Proenza Schouler dress is super unflattering. The top strap looks like she's in a straight jacket. How does one lift her arms?
10:48 pm: Best Comedy film goes to "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Greatly deserved. Love that movie.
10:54 pm: Glenn Close has such a nice body for a mature woman but this blue velvet Armani dress does nothing for it. Its so frumpy. and the hair and make-up need help too. Joaquin Phoenix wins best actor in "Joker". He's a bit kooky and curses a lot during his speech which is hilarious. He asks for forgiveness for being difficult on set. Of course as a vegan he speaks out about climate control.
11:04 pm: (running overtime) Judy Zellwegger wins best actress for her role in "Judy". She is wearing a nice cornflower blue Armani dress. She arms are so ripped. She acts goofy and talks very quietly.
11:08 pm: And the final award of the night does to "1917" for best drama film.
Final note, Ricky asks for everyone to donate to the Australia bushfire tragedy. So many poor animals. Horrible.
That's a wrap. I shall see you at the OSCARS!!
BEST DRESSED: Michelle Pfeiffer
WORST DRESSED: Taylor Swift
